Bring out the Hippie Headbands!

This headband is life. Seriously, a favorite of purchases from last year. I had originally splurged on this homemade gem with plans of wearing it for my little sister's wedding, but a change of heart happened somewhere along the way and it never happened. I say "Splurge" because let's be honest, a headband should never cost an arm & a leg unless it is rimmed with diamonds and comes with a puppy, am I right?!  This is me making the most of an impulse buy! ;) Enjoy!

Summer is in the HAIR

Anyone who is a true blonde understands me when I say the struggle to grow my roots out has been real. I'm that annoying client who sits in the chair and says, "I want to do something completely different.. but don't cut it and please don't change the color." haha if you were to be honest I think its safe to say we have all been there at some point. The real kicker - I've been attending these color classes from companies that promote crazy dramatic looks that will more than likely NEVER make it to the small town of Lake City, FL. It doesn't change the fact that I love keeping up with the big city trends but I have to get creative when it comes to making them small town friendly. The last thing I want is my clients to think I've gone off the deep end. While some (including my family members) have made the comment, "I think it's time Miss Hairstylist herself makes an appointment." I have decided to kick off the summer trend of Redken's "Splashlights' with a very mild variation I've personally been referring to as, rooted & natural. Love it or hate it, It's here to stay... for a little while at least! <3

girly grunge

This outfit fits my style perfectly. I absolutely love grunge & I have a thing for being super girly, so I decided to combine the two with camo & sequins. As much as I wish I could wear my 4 inch heels on a daily basis,  let's be honest, very few people have time for all of that. I like to think the sneaker wedge was invented for me & my busy lifestyle.

Challenge yourself!

Sometimes my "routine" lifestyle can be boring. I'm always trying to switch things up and make it interesting! Back in November, I made a silly challenge with myself (that is still challenging me 2 months later!) I don't know if it was a minor sense of conviction from my constant need to find a bargain, or the fact that Christmas was right around the corner and I needed to save my nickels & dimes! Whatever the reason, I challenged myself not to buy a single article of clothing until I managed to wear everything I already own at least once.
You may be thinking, "That doesn't seem so bad!" However, I didn't realize exactly how hard that would be... until now. Don't get me wrong, I'm not like, a crazy hoarder who only shops and spends a ridiculous amount of money. I am just always looking for a bargain. That "one item" I can't seem to live without. The bad little habit resulted in multiple sweaters, cardigans, jeans, shoes, you name it... all of which had a $3, $7 and $12 price tag that just remained in the closet and was justified by a "Steal."
I'm going to start with the good news... I made it a whole month without purchasing anything! My Husband was so excited! Hehe. The week following, was not so successful. I tried to blame my sister for forcing me to go shopping with her! When the truth is, I needed some stress relief!
I did manage to wear everything in my closet that still had tags! Sadly, I didn't quite make it through my entire wardrobe before I bought something. I could beat myself up over it, but I like to look at the positive aspect of my little challenge. #1 - I cleaned out a good amount of clothing I knew I would never wear & that I had held onto for too long! #2 - I'm a lot more aware of the items in my closet & don't go straight to similar things when I'm in stores!   #3 - I've challenged myself to think outside of the box when it comes to pattern mixing. #4 - I've found multiple uses for items I never thought I would wear more than one way! Although My original challenge is "technically" over, I am still trying to wear everything I own over the next couple of months! I look forward to posting the outfit combos I come up with! Feel free to share your thoughts & pictures if you decide to do the same!

XOXO -Kate

Vintage Glam

Weddings make my heart happy. Everything about them, from the dress, to the very last detail of planning! If it were up to me, Matt & I would celebrate our wedding over & over again! I could re-plan and be giddy with excitement just as I was the day of my wedding! Needless to say, I was jumping up & down with joy when a local photographer and now friend, Holly Frazier, asked if I would be her model for a local wedding magazine! I was able to put my dress on 2 years later and pretend like I was doing it all over again! Here are  just a few of the gorgeous pictures she captured from our shoot!

Be sure to check out the rest of Holly's awesome work!

Education Sunday!

I can attest, "If you truly love what you do, you will never work a day in your life." Being a hair stylist, people have a tendency to think you only play with hair all day. However, there is a lot more to it than what meets the eye. I am so thankful that I work at a salon that takes continuing education seriously and provides me with the knowledge I need to know in order to achieve the goals I have set for myself. Here are a few photos from our Redken Design & Finish class!

A special thank you to our Redken Educator, Roger Milano, for coming all the way from southern California to teach us!
